In today's world, the people and institutions in control are accelerating
a spiral of violence, poverty, and environmental degradation which endangers all
the citizens of the earth.
In order to remedy this situation we need to not just lobby our elected officials,
but also must put people in power who act with the best interests of the people
in mind rather than the interests of those who fill their campaign coffers and
the media outlets who control how and if the public percieves them.
Many of the social and environmental movements of the past have effectively challenged
the status quo and gained concessions from those in power. But they have not substantially
changed the nature of power in society, leaving it the hands of those who act
primarily in the interests of their own power, and those who helped put them there. Only
under great public pressure - which does happen - do they make concessions to
the public good. This puts those who are trying to improve society in the situation
of fighting uphill battles.
In order to remedy this, the San Francisco Green Party is part of a large and
growing grassroots electoral movement, which is attempting to restore the democratic
process and put people in office who truly are working in the best interests of
the majority. Only by doing this can we solidify, progress, and prevent the roll-back
of the gains made by society. Please join us in this task.

The San Francisco Green Party is part of the Green Party of California. In turn,
the Green Party of California is part of the Green Party of the United States
(not GPUSA, a smaller, similarly named organization) which is the national organization
of Green Parties. There are Green Parties worldwide. Many of the European Green
Parties are quite influential, though some have had difficulties sticking to Green values (as in Germany).
The San Francisco Green Party is one of the largest and strongest local Green
groups in the US with 12,257 registered Greens, about 3% of the total number of
registered voters. We have a Green on the Board of Supervisors, Ross Mirkirimi, two Greens on the Board of Education, Mark Sanchez and Jane Kim, a Green on the College Board, John Rizzo, a Green Planning Commissioner, Christina Olague and a Green Ethics Commissioner, Joe Lynn.
California is a stonghold for the Green Party as well, with about 139,000
registered Greens and growing (the Republicrat
parties are both shrinking). The mayors of Richmond, Sebastopol and Fairfax are
Green Party members and the Green Party has had a majority of elected officials in several towns throughout the state including Sebastopol.
The top 3 Greenest counties in California by percentage of registered voters are:
Humboldt 5.22%
Mendocino 4.78%
Santa Cruz 3.27%
There are over 305,000 registered Greens in states that allow party registration, as well as thousands of supporters in the rest of the country. The Party has ballot access in 31 states.
